WOW! What a weekend of dance it was!
The Easter Spectacular week end of dance would have to go down as THE best DanceSport event(s) staged in Adelaide for many years. A marathon and smorgasbord of 3 dance events, catering for ALL dancers… something for every one, including the glamorous Dancewear Australia stall of products & services, all under the one roof – Adelaide’s favourite dance venue – Wonderland Ballroom.

The week end started with the Easter DanceSport Festival on Saturday, traditionally the ‘warm up’ event for competitors for the following day. Spectator numbers were up, competitor numbers were up- both locally and interstate. More couples took advantage of this festival to test their skills against fellow competitors, in readiness for the big Championship to follow.

The conclusion of the Festival around 6.30pm, made way for the start of the EASTER BALL at 7.30pm. Mr ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Judge, Mark Wilson hosted the evening to the delight of a huge crowd who enjoyed a fabulous evening of social dancing to the best music in town! Mark had great energy and enthusiasm and managed to get around and chat to every table of patrons and told many interesting stories over the mic.  The crowd were also treated to a magnificent floorshow of Ballroom and Latin by Paul Biddle & Sheree Holly of SA and Steven Grinbergs & Rachelle Plaass of NSW, giving everyone a mouth watering taste of what they could expect to see the following day…

…and to the main event – The Easter Spectacular DanceSport Championship exceeded all expectations! The day commenced at 10am with many heats and finals of all categories from Social/Medallist, Juvenile, Junior, Adult, Masters and Professional.  Huge fields in Adult level 2 required heats and semi finals before finals. Competitor numbers again both locally and interstate were up 50% on last year and by the evening session the atmosphere in the Ballroom was electric! The quantity and quality of dancers competing in the Adult Open and Professional events has not been seen here in many years and was an organisers and spectators dream come true. Breath taking entertainment – a truly successful event on all levels!

I would like to sincerely thank my DASA committee and all other helpers for all their hard work with me in the lead up to and over the week end – great work team! Thank you to our sponsors and advertisers – your support is paramount and in turn, our dancers will support you. To all the local dancers and spectators – thank you for your support. Finally a BIG thank you to all the interstate couples, Judges and Professionals from Victoria and New South Wales for their support and contributing so much to making this event the huge success it was. Great to see so many of the nation’s TOP couples competing here in Adelaide. We trust you enjoyed the event and Adelaide’s hospitality and hope to see you ALL back again NEXT Easter.
